Newly-promoted Old DOHS succumbed to their sixth defeat in a row in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League after suffering a 49-run defeat against Mohammedan at BKSP 3 yesterday.
In the other two matches of the sixth round yesterday, a five-wicket haul from Mostafizur Rahman guided Abahani to a six-wicket win over Kalabagan Krira Chakra in Fatullah while Victoria registered a comfortable seven-wicket victory against Partex at BKSP 4.
Mohammedan v Old DOHS, BKSP 3
Asked to bat first, Mohammedan posted a challenging 250/8 in their stipulated 50 overs riding on half-centuries from wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammed Mithun (54) and skipper Naeem Islam (51 not out). Old DOHS’ Abu Jayed (3/52) and Saleh Ahmed Shawon (3/46) shared six wickets between them.
In reply, Old DOHS never looked like overhauling the target and eventually ended their chase at 201/8 in 50 overs. Opener Shanaj Ahmed was the highest scorer with 55 while Ahasanul Haque chipped in with 48 for the losing side.
Ariful Haque picked up three wickets while left-arm spinner Murad Khan bagged two wickets to propel Mohammedan to their third victory of this campaign.
Abahani v Kalabagan KC, Fatullah
Batting first, Kalabagan KC scored 189/9 in their allotted 50 overs in the face of some inspired bowling by Mostafizur. He took five wickets conceding 32 runs.
In pursuit of a modest target, Abahani barely broke sweat reaching 193 with eight overs remaining and six wickets intact. Abahani’s unbroken fifth-wicket pair of Nasir Hossain (53 not out) and Chamara Silva (59 not out) put on 119 runs to give the Sky Blues their fourth win.
Victoria v Partex, BKSP 4
Opting to take first strike, Partex were bundled out for just 183 in 47.4 overs with Victoria’s Abu Haider (4/28) causing the most damage.
National discard Mehrab Hossain Jr was the highest scorer for Partex with 65 from 114 balls.
Chasing 184, Victoria reached their destination in 45.4 overs with seven wickets in hand. Wicketkeeper Dhiman Ghosh top scored with an undefeated 116-ball 87 while skipper Nadif Chowdhury was unbeaten on 43. This is Victoria’s third win in six matches.
