Three changes likely in BCB committees

Update : 23 Nov 2014, 08:29 PM

Cricket’s governing body in the country is all set to undergo changes in three of its committees, informed Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan yesterday during the second ODI between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in Chittagong.

The BCB supremo said the board has already chalked out its plans for the next five years and the changes in the board are part of that. “Most possibly there will be changes in three committees and there will be a senior national team cricketer in the cricket operations committee,” said Nazmul.

The first change is expected to take place in the cricket operations committee. Its current chairman, former national captain Akram Khan, is likely to make way for inaugural Test skipper Naimur Rahman, who is now the chairman of the age-level development committee. Akram has been under severe pressure ever since the generators failed to work properly in a couple of matches in the ICC World Twenty20 hosted by Bangladesh earlier this year.

A change is also expected in the hierarchy of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM). The post of CCDM president has been vacant ever since its previous boss, AZM Nasir, was elected the vice-president of BCB. Chairman of the medical committee, Hanif Bhuiyan, is likely to replace Nasir.

The final change is expected to be the inclusion of a director in the BCB. The appointment of Nazmul as president emptied a place for a director and it is being rumoured that former captain Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu might get the nod. All the changes will be finalised in the upcoming board meeting.

Since the BCB election took place on October 10 last year, this will be the first time cricket’s governing body will experience changes.
