Mohammedan, Kalabagan Cricket Academy and Prime Back registered their first victories in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2014-15 season after winning their respective matches yesterday. The three matches held at different venues across the capital city meant the tournament concluded its second round with Legends of Rupganj, formerly known as Gazi Tank Cricketers, jointly sharing top spot with Abahani. The two sides have bagged two wins apiece.
Mohammedan SC v Victoria SC, Mirpur
Mohammedan picked up their maiden win of the season defeating Victoria by 53 runs at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. The defeat was a hard one to digest for Victoria’s top-order batsman Chamara Kapugedera who blasted his second century of the tournament.
Batting first, the traditional Black and Whites posted 282 runs on the board for the loss of five wickets courtesy Naeem Islam’s 92, wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammed Mithun’s 83 and Angelo Parera’s unbeaten 50.
In reply, Victoria gave a good account of themselves despite a poor start as their openers departed with only 21 runs on the board. Kapugedera made 106 off as many deliveries and alongside Marshal Ayub, the third wicket duo added 102 runs and tried to revive the early damage. However, the break of the partnership was followed by the fall of wickets at regular intervals.
The game though ended early due to bad light with Victoria batting on 221/9 in 46.1 overs. Mohammedan eventually won the tie by 53 runs according to the Duckworth-Lewis method.
Paceman Alauddin Babu and left-arm spinner Rahatul Ferdous picked up three wickets each for Mohammedan.
Kalabagan CA v Old DOHS, Fatullah
Kalabagan garnered their first points of the season riding on Jeevan Mendis’ all-round heroics to defeat Old DOHS by 11 runs at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.
Kalabagan took first strike and posted 231 runs on the board losing all of their wickets. The side’s Sri Lankan recruit Mendis led the innings from the front scoring 62 runs with the help of four boundaries and one six.
Kalabagan skipper Mahmudul Hasan added 54 to the tally. Nehaduzzaman scalped three wickets for Old DOHS while Al Amin Siddique bagged two.
Later, Old DOHS managed to score 220 runs losing all wickets. Opener Shahnaz Ahmed and top-order batsman Shehan Jayasuriya scored 72 and 74 runs respectively. Mendis caused the most damage with four dismissals. Mohammed Sharif picked up two wickets.
Prime Bank CC v Brothers Union, BKSP 3
At BKSP 3, Prime Bank registered a close 14-run victory over Brothers Union.
Prime Bank scored 237 for nine wickets with Sri Lanka’s Dilshan Munaweera top-scoring with 53 and skipper Forhad Reza chipping in with an unbeaten 51.
Brothers’ foreign recruit, Sri Lankan all-rounder Milinda Siriwardana picked up three wickets while Asif Hasan and Ahmed Sadiqur bagged two wickets each.
Later, the Prime Bank bowlers successfully restricted Brothers dismissing the Gopibagh outfit for 223 in 48.2 overs. Brothers’ top-order batsman Nazmus Sadat topped the chase with 91 off 102 deliveries with the help of half a dozen boundaries and four sixes.
Left-arm spinner Mohammad Forkan took three wickets for Prime Bank while Taposh Baisya, Forhad Reza and Enamul Haque Jr bagged two wickets each.
