Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma has rewritten the history book, slamming record 264 runs to become the highest ODI scorer.
The batsman has smashed his second double century to power India to climb up a mammoth total of 404 for five in fourth ODI against Sri Lanka in Kolkata on Thursday.
The cricket world has only witnessed four double-centuries while Sharma became the first cricketer to pass the 250 run mark in ODI and the only man to score two double-centuries.
He scored 264 off 173 balls (33x4 and 9x6) to surpass Virender Sehwag's 219 in Indore against West Indies on 2011.
Opener Rohit hit Nuwan Kulasekara for four with a cover drive to reach the double ton. His epic essay of 200 came off 151 balls and included 25 fours and 5 sixes.
Sharma batted full 50 overs and dismissed off in the last ball of the innings with Lankan most experienced man Mahela Jayawardene catching him in the long off.
Skipper Virat Kohli scored 64 of 66 before getting run-out, supported Sharma well in the middle.
Rohit Sharma received a guard of honour from his teammates while leaving the field at a venue, which is celebrating 150 years.
This total also became the highest ODI score at the venue as India scored their previous best of 317, which was also against Sri Lanka in 2009.
This is the fifth time India made 400+ in ODIs. No other team has done it more than twice.
