“I do not have a set ambition for the Australia series to be honest. It is not possible to repeat my performance from the England series. It happens once or may be twice in a lifetime. But then again I will try to do my best and fulfill the team’s demand. One or two wickets or a breakthrough in a good moment will do good to the team I believe. So I am focusing on those at the moment. I have just returned from CPL playing with the white ball so I have some 10 to 12 days in hand to prepare myself for the red ball,” said Miraz.Bangladesh will be contesting a Test series against Australia for the first time in 11 years. None of the members in the Bangladesh squad have ever faced the Aussies in this format. The senior men in the dressing room, including the likes of Shakib, Tamim and Mushfiq had to wait more than 10 years for a series against Australia but not Miraz, who is yet to complete a year in international cricket. “The opportunity is big to play Test against a top side like Australia. It will be great if I get to play them and do well. Playing at home is a big advantage so I will try my best to make use of it and get the best possible result. We have Shakib, Taijul [Islam] and myself in the spin attack and if everyone do their job, then we can get a good outcome from the series,” said Miraz.
Bangladesh cricketer Mehedi Hasan Miraz returned home on Tuesday from the CPL T20 without playing a game during his 18-day long stay with franchise Trinbago Knight Riders.
Miraz was available for six matches for the Knight Riders and despite missing out on on-field action, the former Bangladesh U-19 captain believes he has bagged some much needed experience, which will aid him in his career.
The Rajshahi lad also brought back memories from Port of Spain, the Knight Riders’ home ground where Bangladesh registered history, defeating India in the 2007 50-over World Cup.
“I had seen that game on television. Mushfiqur [Rahim], Shakib [al Hasan] and Tamim [Iqbal] had scored half-centuries while Abdur Razzak bhai picked up three wickets. Mashrafe [bin Mortaza] was the man of the match for taking four wickets. Bangladesh bagged their maiden win against India there so I was really excited to have that venue as my home ground in the CPL,” Miraz told the media.Miraz joined the Bangladesh camp in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.
With the two-match Test series against Australia fast approaching, the right-arm all-rounder appeared well prepared for the longer format, which made him a star overnight.
Miraz emerged as the next big Bangladesh star in his debut series against England at home in October last year.The off-spinner made a sensational debut, notching 19 wickets in the two-Test series.
Miraz marked his arrival with seven wickets in the first Test, including six in the first innings and one in the second essay.
The young Bangladesh bowler and his team mates moved to Dhaka for the second and final Test with a lot of confidence and Miraz kept up his match-winning exploits, taking six scalps in each innings.
