Not a single nomination paper of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) vice-president election was sold on the opening day of the procedure yesterday.
According to the full-fledged schedule for the two vacant vice-president posts, the election is scheduled to take place on September 16. The candidates will have the chance to purchase nomination papers and submit them within September 7-11. This will be followed by the publishing of the list of candidates after scrutinising the submitted nomination papers on September 13. Thereafter, candidates will get the opportunity to withdraw their nomination papers on September 14.
The final list of the candidates will be published by the BCB on September 15, just a day before the polls.
The number of interested candidates for the already delayed election was reduced to three after current board directors Sajjadul Alam and Enayet Hossain Siraj opted out of the race. Sajjadul pulled out his name informing BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury ahead of the declaration of the date for the election. The withdrawals of Sajjadul and Siraj left former senior BCB vice-president Mahbub Anam, Ahmed Iqbal Hasan and AZM Nasir to fight for the two available slots. Sources revealed influential BCB directors Mahbub and Nasir are the front-runners as majority of the board directors and the BCB president himself are interested in seeing the duo in the posts.
