BPL franchises served ultimatum

Update : 06 Sep 2014, 07:26 PM

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will serve the seven franchises of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) with a ‘confirmation notice of termination’ anytime soon. The BCB has sent letters to the seven franchises yesterday asking to clear the outstanding dues whilst also informing them that failing to do so will see their contracts with the board terminated.

BCB chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury informed the media yesterday that the seven franchises have been served with the ultimatum letter but no deadline was mentioned.

On the other hand, BPL Governing Council member-secretary Ismail Haider Mallick cut a disconsolate figure saying BCB had made several attempts to realise the dues but failed.

“They (franchises) were given enough time I believe,” said Mallick yesterday. “So there is no other way for us then to terminate the contract with them if they do not response accordingly this time. They will be served termination confirmation any day,” he added.

The BCB director also informed that the board will take legal measures against the franchises if they fail to pay the money.

According to sources within the BPL GC, none of the franchises have paid the annual fees. On top of that the seven teams have also failed to clear the players’ remuneration from the second edition of the BPL held in early 2013.

Meanwhile, the hearing of the disciplinary appeal of match-fixing allegations from the second edition of the BPL will begin tomorrow.
