Sajjadul, Enayet opt out of VP race

Update : 06 Sep 2014, 07:24 PM

The number of interested candidates for the already delayed Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) vice-president’s election has been reduced to three after current board directors Sajjadul Alam and Enayet Hossain Siraj opted out of the race.

Sajjadul informed BCB chief Nazmul Hasan of his disinterest in participating in the election prior to the last board meeting where the election date was fixed while Enayet informed Nazmul of his decision right after the date of the poll was announced.

Speaking to Dhaka Tribune yesterday, Sajjadul cited personal reasons for opting out while Enayet, who is currently in Singapore, could not be reached for comments.

The withdrawals left former senior BCB vice-president Mahbub Anam, Ahmed Iqbal Hasan and AZM Nasir to fight for the two available slots. Sources revealed influential BCB director Mahbub and Nasir are the front-runners as majority of the board directors and the BCB president himself is interested in seeing the duo in the posts.

The first elected body of the cricket board failed to reach a consensus over the two largely ceremonial posts and consequently asked for an election on December 4, 2013.

Nazmul, after the last board meeting on August 26, finally announced September 16 as the date of the polls for the two posts which are left unattended for around a year – since the formation of the current BCB body in October last.
