Mohammedan emerged as the first finalists of the Metropolitan Women’s Cricket League 2014 yesterday. The legendary club defeated Gulshan Youth Club by 99 runs (D/L method) to confirm a berth in the final of the 50-over tournament.
Winning the toss, Mohammedan decided to take first strike at Mirpur. However, following a rain interruption after the first over, the innings was curtailed to 33 overs as Mohammedan posted 146 runs losing six wickets. Opening batters Ayesha Rahman and Sathira Jakir scored 42 and 43 runs respectively. Bristi Roy picked up two wickets for Gulshan.
Another stoppage due to rain meant Gulshan’s target was revised. They had to chase 159 runs in 30 overs which they failed to do so. Gulshan managed to score only 59 runs before losing all of their wickets in just 10 overs.
Mohammedan will now face the winner of the second semifinal between Abahani and Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan which takes place tomorrow.
