Brazil vs Mexico fact sheet

Brazil and Mexico first met each other in World Cup encounters on 28th June, 1950 at Marcana Stadium in Brazil.

The host hammered the opponent with 4 goals, Ademir scored a couple, Jair and Baltazar scored a goal each in that game.

Both the sides met each other in the very next tournament held in Switzerland. On 16th June, 1954 Brazil smashed Mexico with a staggering 5-0 at Charmilles Stadium, Geneva.

Baltazar scored again, with a pair of goals from Pinga and one each from Didi and Julinho.

Two teams meet in a World Cup match prior to today's one was in 1962. The match took place in Estadio Sausalito, Viña del Mar of Chile on 30th May.

Mario Jorge Lobo Zagalo, popularly known as Mario Zagalo, the only man from Brazil to win the cup both as player and Manager, scored the first goal and Pele scored the second to give them a victory of two goals to nil.

Since then these two teams have not met each other in the World Cup. Mexican supporters will be expecting to turn the stones while Brazilian supporters will be confident to retain the history.
