Dashing opener Tamim Iqbal has fallen victim to an injury to his right thumb again during batting against Rajshahi division yesterday in the 15th National Cricket League. The left-hander has been advised a rest for two weeks which now means the 25 year old will miss the last round of the first class tournament.
Tamim immediately went off the field after scoring only one run after a delivery from medium pacer Shafiul Islam bounced a bit more than usual to hit his right thumb. Unfortunately it was the same finger he injured a year ago while fielding in a match against Sri Lanka which forced him to miss the remaining matches of the series.
“The ball hit my right thumb when I was facing Shafiul. It’s the same place where I got injured against Sri Lanka last year. Doctors have advised me a two weeks rest after they saw the x-ray report,” said Tamim to Dhaka Tribune.
The left-hander has suffered from a series of injuries recently. Before yesterday’s setback, it was a freakish neck injury whichprevented him from playing in the Asia Cup this year. Tamim even had to visit Singapore for treatment.
Meanwhile, national skipper Mushfiqur Rahim also hurt his finger while he was keeping as he tried to stop a deliveryfrom the same bowler,Shafiul. He was out of the field for a while but his Rajshahi teammate Farhad Reza informed that there was nothing to worry about Mushfiq’s injury. According to Reza,Mushfiqwanted to return to the field but it wasn’t required ultimately as the match was almost over by then.
