Update : 06 Apr 2014, 04:44 PM

Sri Lanka has at last broken the jinx of finals. The island nation has won the final of T20 world cup at Mirpur on Sunday beating India by 6 wickets. This is their first ICC tournament triumph since 1996.

Kumar Sangakkara, on his last innings guide his time with a crafty half century. He was not out on 52 from just 32 balls. His close friend and another Sri Lankan legend Jayawardhena also bow an adieu to his career with this match made a steady partnership to guide their team home.

None of the Indian bowler could dent the confidence of Lankan batsmen.

Earlier, India have set a target of 131 for Sri Lanka in the finals of the Twenty20 World Cup at Mirpur, credit to the tidy all-round bowling from the Lankans.

The set batsman, Virat Kohli not out at 77, faced only seven deliveries in the last four overs. No boundaries were scored in these overs.

India were off to a cautious start after being put to bat first, what led to a slow start with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma struggling to time the ball.

After Sharma departed in the middle overs, Kohli’s attempt to step on the gears was held back by an out-of-form Yuvraj Singh (11 runs off 21 balls).

Malinga and Kulasekara made the ideal demonstrations of death-bowling.
