Ouch, it hurts!

Update : 25 Mar 2014, 06:12 PM

A couple of stunning catches by Tamim Iqbal could not hide the awful blunders the Tigers made in the field against West Indies in their first Super 10 match yesterday.

The going was good until the 11th over when Sohag Gazi, just conceding four boundaries in an over, fumbled a straight forward long-barrier to convert it to a four before Anamul Haque did something similar at the long-off boundary.

Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim was also among the culprits as Shakib al Hasan back-to-back deliveries in the 17th over went straight through the gap of the wicketkeeper’s pads resulting in eight bye runs.

Ziaur Rahma was introduced in the penultimate over and had his only success in the first ball after Tamim showed great presence of mind to hang on to a long hopper. Tamim was just about to step out of the rope when he took the catch, but threw the ball in the air before he stepped out and came back inside to re-grab the attempt and send Chris Gayle back.

However, Zia could have had another wicket had Mahmudullah not dropped two catches in consecutive balls. Mahmudullah misjudged West Indian skipper Darren Sammy’s skier at long-off as the ball went over his head and landed inside the rope before going over, while the next one was hit hard and flat and all Mahmudullah could do was put his hand to it.

Tamim on the other end maintained his reputation on the day as he hung on to a screamer in the last over by Al Amin. He flew to his right, parallel to the ground and took a one handed stunner at short thirdman to return the dangerous Andre Russell for a golden duck.

The clumsy effort in the field eventually cost them at least 20 runs which also allowed West Indies the cushion with 171 on the scorecard.
