O’Neill for now has joined as the consultant for just a month though. The former New South Wales and Western Australia batsman reached Dhaka on Wednesday and visited the facilities in Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday. Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha, who returned to Dhaka on Friday following vacation, accompanied O’Neill during his visit to Mirpur. The former Australia first-class cricketer is expected to get down to work from today as the national cricketers will return to business following a two-day break for the weekend.
“I first want to observe them and understand the culture here and then think of long time work here. But a month is long enough for doing small tasks,” said O’Neill.Meanwhile, BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said O’Neill will work with the national team for a month and if everything falls into place, the Australian coach will be involved with BCB's development programme. O’Neill in his 11-year-long career played 76 first-class matches and 21 List A games.
