BD women clinch series against Pakistan

Bangladesh women’s cricket team clinched their first ODI series winning 2-0 against visiting Pakistan women’s team with a three wicket win in the 2nd and last match at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium, Cox’s Bazar yesterday.

Pakistan, who chose to bat after winning the toss, were restricted to 87 all out in 46.1 overs. Upper order player Syeda Fatima Abidi top scored with 28 runs off 78 balls, with three fours. Shohaly Akther grabbed three wickets for 13 run in eight overs while Panna Ghosh, Lata Mondol and Rumana Ahmed scalped two wickets each, giving away 9, 15 and 21 runs respectively. Skippers Sana Mir’s 18 off 68 balls was the other notable score for the visitors.

Later it was a cakewalk for the hosts as they cruised to 88 for 7 in 34.5 overs.  Opener Ayesha Rahman provided the ideal platform by scoring 29 off 90 balls with four boundaries, one down Farzana Haque chipped in with 18 off 45 balls with three fours and Lata Mondol added 16 runs off 17 balls, including three fours.  It was Pakistan skipper Sana Mir, who shined with the cherry, grabbing four wickets for 26 runs and she was adjudged player of the match.   Sumaiya Siddiqi and Nida Dar captured one wicket each conceding 14 and 15 runs respectively.  

Bangladesh won the first ODI by 43 runs. After the completion of the ODI series, the teams will lock horns in a two-match T20 series  that begins on Saturday at the same venue.
