Sohag out with thumb injury

Update : 02 Mar 2014, 04:45 PM

Sohag Gazi has been the latest inclusion in Bangladesh’s injury list as the off-spinner was ruled out of the Asia Cup after cutting his right thumb during their match against Afghanistan on Saturday. Sohag came on to bowl in the 11th over at Fatullah and cut his thumb when he tried to field off his fourth ball. He was immediately rushed to a local hospital where the doctors put four stitches on the wound.

“The cut was caused by the seam and it had to be stitched up. He will need seven to ten days to recover,” said national team physio Vibhav Singh.

Earlier, it was Tamim Iqbal who was rested for the five-nation tournament with a neck strain while the injury prone Mashrafe bin Mortaza picked up a side strain in the opening match against India and was rested in the previous match.

Mahmudullah, who lost his place after a poor series against Sri Lanka at home, was named as Sohag’s replacement for the remainder of the Asia Cup.
