Empty stands in Fatullah

Update : 25 Feb 2014, 05:24 PM

Empty seats in either side of the stands at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatullah portrayed a “something wrong” scenario about the ticket distribution of the ongoing Arise Asia Cup yesterday.

With Pakistan playing Sri Lanka in the opening match of the five-team tournament about 50 percent of the galleries were seen empty during the match. It’s not a usual sight as the venue had been filled with spectators in the previous international fixtures.

United Commercial Bank earlier declared all the tickets of the opening match had been sold out but the stands did not reflect their fact. However when people were left stranded outside the stadium, tickets were still available in the black market for a higher price than usual. More surprisingly tickets were seen available in a number of online buying and selling sites and Bikroy.comwas the most prominent among the online sellers.

The ticket buying procedure through U-Cash may also have a bad impact. Most of the people don’t have U-Cash accounts and many people who went to the bank to buy tickets heard they have to open a U-Cash account to avail it. Moreover, the 15 percent vat and other charges on a Tk200 ticket had made it a more complex procedure.

However, with the home side playing today against India it is expected the fans will barge in and fill the stands.
