One of the top allrounders in the world, Shakib Al Hasan has been banned for three One Day International (ODI) cricket matches because of ill-conduct.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made the bold decision after a disciplinary committee hearing held at its office on Friday evening, a press release said.
Shakib appeared before the BCB and confessed to have made an inappropriate gesture live on television during the second ODI with Sri Lanka on February 20.
Shakib was repentant for the behavior and accepted that it was inappropriate for a player of his stature, BCB acting Chief Executive Officer Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said.
After the hearing, the board banned Shakib from three national ODI matches and slapped a fine of Tk3 lakh for the offense.
