Maasranga set to land Sri Lanka series rights

Update : 18 Dec 2013, 04:35 PM

Maasranga Television, one of the private satellite channels of Bangladesh, is on the verge of securing the television rights for Bangladesh’s home series against Sri Lanka in January.

Gazi Television was Maasranga’s only competitor in the run. Gazi won the right to televise Bangladesh’s last series against New Zealand in October, but better payment and quality assurances make Maasranga the favourites to land the deal currently on the table.

“The deal is mostly done. They (Maasranga) were well ahead in the race and assured broadcasting of international quality,” BCB chairman of marketing and commercial Kazi Inam Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.

Inclusion of speedometer, timeline breaks between overs and other important aspects are being assured, added Inam.

“We will have a few more meetings in next two days regarding technical issues and then pen down the contract,” he concluded.

The BCB failed to pen down a long-term TV right since the expiry of the previous contract with Nimbus in April 2011. However, Nimbus brought the rights for the home series against West Indies and Pakistan in 2011, while Channel 9 bought the rights for the home series against West Indies last year.
