WI U19 team cancels Bangladesh tour

Update : 09 Dec 2013, 04:56 AM

The West Indies Cricket Board has decided to withdraw their under-19 team from the remaining tour of Bangladesh citing security reasons.

The decision came Monday morning and a notice to this regard was published on their website.

The notice said that a report prepared by their Security Manager Paul Slowe suggested that the environment in Bangladesh is not conductive to the programme.

The decision was made in view of the nationwide blockade programme of the BNP-led 18-party alliance, it said.

Bangladesh Cricket Board Media Manager Rabeed Imam confirmed this move. “They are feeling insecure to continue any further.”

Earlier on Sunday, the second youth ODI supposed to take place at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium  was postponed for security reasons. The match was rescheduled to Monday at the same venue.

“Today's match has also been cancelled,” Imam said.

The West Indies under-19 team had come to Bangladesh to play a six-match ODI series against the Tigers.
