The second Youth ODI between Bangladesh Under-19 and West Indies Under-19, which was supposed to be played yesterday, was postponed to today for security reasons. The match will be played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) in Chittagong.
BCB officials said the deferral was made because the West Indies team were “feeling insecure” after crude bombs blasted near their hotel, Hotel Agrabad, on Saturday night during the 72-hour nationwide blockade.
“Few crude bombs were exploded near Hotel Agrabad with loud sounds last night, however, no unwanted incident happened,” AJM Nasir Uddin, director of BCB, told the Dhaka Tribune.
“Because of that, they did not want to play this morning feeling insecure. We have postponed today’s match. It will be held at the same venue tomorrow 9:30am,” he said.
“The third match was supposed to be held at MA Aziz Stadium. The venue is near to a local BNP office, Nasiman Bhaban. We have also changed the venue for that match to the divisional stadium to evade any untoward situation,” added the director. The third match will be held on December 11.
Following the incident, security measures were strengthened in the area and the game venue, said Banaz Kumar Majumder, additional commissioner (crime and operation) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police.
