Lawyers of English cricketer Darren Stevens and Sri Lankan Kaushal Lokuarachchi will face the tribunal of the Bangladesh Cricket Board to deal with the Bangladesh Premier League match-fixing scandal involving the two cricketers.
The tribunal led by Justice Mohammad Abdur Rashid called for a preliminary hearing on November 24. Sources confirmed that the two foreign cricketers won’t be available for the hearing and so the session will be dealt by their respective lawyers.
“According to the BCB anti-corruption code representatives of the accused can be present for a hearing, however, as this sessions are done in closed door, we will expect them not make things public,” said Justice Andur Rashid to the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.
Rashid also informed that a press briefing is likely to take place on Saturday on how the tribunal will work and the expected time for the tribunal to reach its conclusion.
It was learnt that lawyers of both Stevens and Lokuarachchi will reach Dhaka on November 23 and attend the hearing the following day.
The ICC anti-draft team, after their thorough investigation, charged seven individuals for involvement in match-fixing in the BPL in February this year while Stevens and Lokuarachchi were charged for their failure to report a corrupt approach to them.
