U-19s clinch ODI series in WI

Update : 22 Oct 2013, 07:02 PM

Mehedy Hasan and Mohammad Nihaduzzaman spun Bangladesh under-19s to a comprehensive 67-run win in the last youth ODI against their West Indian counterpart as the visitors clinched the seven-match series 4-3 at Guyana on Monday.

Bangladesh were restricted to 168 runs after they opted to bat first winning the toss. A decent 43-run opening stand between Shadman Islam (48) and Joyraj Sheik (26) was thrown away as the middle-order collapsed in front of some hostile pace bowling from Jerome Jones. Seven batsmen didn’t trouble the scorer getting out on a duck as Jones also completed a hat-trick with wickets of Yasir Ali, Nihaduzzaman and Jubair Hossain. He ended with five wickets for the home side.

However, the Windies had no clue of the opposition spinners as they were bundled out for only 101 runs. Left-arm spinner Nihaduzzaman led the onslaught with 5 for 12 in 7.5 overs while the Bangladesh skipper Mehedy bagged 4 for 25 in his 10 overs. Top order batsman Jeremy Solozano remained unbeaten on 35, the highest in the West Indian innings. Mehedy became the player of the match as well as the player of the series.
