New Zealand head coach Rob Walter has praised Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana, describing him as a “wonderful fast bowler” capable of making a major impact in home conditions during the upcoming ODI series.

Speaking to reporters in Mirpur, Walter highlighted Nahid’s pace and growing reputation, particularly after his recent stint in the Pakistan Super League.

“He’s a wonderful fast bowler. These conditions will help him. It’s good to see a genuinely quick bowler coming through for Bangladesh,” Walter said.

The Kiwi coach stressed that his side would not underestimate the young pacer.

“We are not taking his quality lightly at all. Bangladesh have some very good fast bowlers. Facing pace is nothing new for us — we deal with it regularly. We also have quality pacers in our team. It’s about executing our skills on the day,” he added, noting Nahid’s ability to operate around the 140 kph mark.

Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons also underlined Nahid’s importance, calling him the team’s “trump card” and emphasising the need for careful workload management.

“We have to protect him and ensure he remains available. Looking after him properly will allow him to give his best for Bangladesh,” Simmons said.

Confident about his side’s preparation, Simmons added that Bangladesh are ready for a competitive contest before their upcoming tour of Pakistan.
