Tanzid’s knock was the centerpiece of the final and marked only the third century in BPL final history

A magnificent century from opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim set up Rajshahi Warriors’ commanding 63-run victory over Chattogram Royals in the final of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025-26 at a packed Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Friday.

Asked to bat first by Chattogram captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rajshahi posted an imposing 174 for 4, with Tanzid’s 100 off 62 balls forming the backbone of the innings and setting the Royals a daunting target.

Chattogram’s chase never truly got going. The Royals struggled against disciplined Warriors bowling and were eventually restricted to 110 for 8 in 16.2 overs.

Tanzid’s knock was the centerpiece of the final and marked only the third century in BPL final history, placing him in elite company alongside Chris Gayle and Tamim Iqbal.

The left-hander combined power with composure, smashing seven sixes and six fours, and reached his hundred with a single in the 19th over before falling later in the same over to a catch in the deep.

Rajshahi began cautiously but accelerated beautifully through an 83-run opening partnership between Tanzid and Sahibzada Farhan, who contributed a steady 30.

Tanzid was given a lifeline on 54, surviving a dropped catch off Amer Jamal, and made Chattogram pay heavily for the missed opportunity.

After Farhan’s dismissal, Kane Williamson played a brisk cameo of 24 off 15 balls, adding 47 runs for the second wicket with Tanzid to keep the momentum firmly with the Warriors.

Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto provided late impetus with 11 off 7 balls as Rajshahi finished strongly.

Chattogram’s bowlers struggled to stem the flow of runs on a good batting surface. Mukidul Islam and Shoriful Islam picked up two wickets each, but Amer Jamal endured a forgettable outing, conceding 43 runs in his four overs, including a costly 17-run 17th over.

Standout performances with the ball came from Rajshahi’s bowlers, who struck regularly to derail the Royals’ chase and maintain tight control throughout.

Opener Mirza Baig was Chattogram’s top scorer with 39 runs off 36 balls.

The stadium was packed long before the toss, creating an electric atmosphere for the season’s title decider, as fans witnessed a final dominated by Tanzid’s brilliance and Rajshahi’s clinical batting display.

Rajshahi Warriors later went on to seal the match convincingly, completing a memorable campaign and lifting the BPL 2025-26 trophy in style.
