Tanvir Islam’s three wickets for 8 runs in four overs sat the stage for Chattogram Royals’s thrashing 10-wicket victory over Dhaka Capitals in the Bangladesh Premier League on Friday.
Shoriful Islam also took three wickets as the pacer spared 18 runs in four overs to join the hunt with Tanvir to dismiss Dhaka for 122 with two balls remaining in the low-scoring innings.
Sent in to bat at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Dhaka struggled from the outset as Shoriful removed openers Saif Hassan and Zubaid Akbari in five overs.
Spinners Tanvir Islam and captain Mahedi Hasan then took control of the innings, reducing Dhaka to 66 for seven.
Nasir Hossain and Mohammad Saifuddin provided some late resistance but Dhaka were eventually bundled out for 122 in 19.4 overs.
Chattogram chased the target in rapid pace without losing any wicket.
Openers Mohammad Naim and Adam Rossington went on the offensive against the Dhaka bowling to wrap up the chase in dominant fashion.
Naim and Rossington were unbeaten on 54-off-40 and 60-off-36 respectively as the Royals steered toward victory in only 12.4 overs.
Rossington’s innings featured two sixes and nine boundaries while Naim hit a six and seven 4s.
Mohammad Saifuddin was top scorer for Capitals after coming to bat in the lower order. He was unbeaten on 33 – facing 25 balls and hitting four boundaries.
