DPL continues without national stars

Update : 03 Oct 2013, 04:44 PM

The clubs will take the field for their sixth round of the Dhaka Premier League today without their national stars as they are preparing for the upcoming home series against New Zealand. Brothers Union will miss the service of dashing opener Tamim Iqbal as they eye to take the lead in the league when they face a Shakib al Hasan-less Kalabagan Krira Chakra at the Fatullah stadium.

Though Shakib played just one game due to his finger injury, losing the right-handed middle-order batsman Naeem Islam will be a tough position to fill for the Kalabagan side. Both Shakib and Naeem were named in the first Test squad while they are also featuring in the tour game for BCB XI.

Brothers’ Zimbabwean all-rounder Sean Williams showed his bowling skills, picking a seven-wicket haul, in the last match while Sri Lankans Angelo Matthews and Kaushlya Perera, who replaced compatriot Sachittra Senanayeke, are also there to boost the Motijheel outfit. For Kalabagan, their Sri lankan trio – Jehan Mubarak, Chamara Kapugedara and Dilhara Lokuhettige – are in superb form too which indicates that the foreigners will play a crucial role in the match. Brothers have eight points while their day’s opponents are ninth in the table with four points.

Meanwhile, the other Kalabagan side, Kalabagan Cricket Academy, will be taking on a weakened Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club at BKSP-3. Sheikh Jamal will be taking the field without national captain Mushfiqur Rahim and Abdur Razzak while Kalabagan CA will miss their young skipper Marshal Ayub, who was named in both the Test and tour game squad. After equal five matches, Jamal have eight points while Kalabagan CA have five.

In the other match of the day at Bogra, Cricket Coaching School and Khelaghar SKS will be fighting hard for their first win of the campaign. Both teams are yet to register a point as they lost all their outings so far.
