Premier Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan struck gold in the 2025 Global Super League Twenty20 opener as his brilliant all-round display guided his side Dubai Capitals to a 22-run win against Central Districts in Providence Thursday.
Shakib struck a whirlwind 58 not out off 37 deliveries in Dubai’s total of 165/7 which also featured a 25-ball 41 from Afghan opener Sediqullah Atal after Central Districts won the toss and elected to field.
In reply, Central Districts were restricted to 143/8 in the face of some devastating bowling by Shakib, who ended up with miserly figure of 4/13 from four overs, which included a maiden – taking his total to 27 in T20 cricket, behind only Sunil Narine’s 31 maidens.
Shakib took his T20 wicket tally to 497 as he looks to become only the fifth cricketer after Rashid Khan, Dwayne Bravo, Narine and Imran Tahir to join the 500-club.
The magnificent all-round performance landed Shakib his 43rd player of the match award in T20 cricket, sixth in the list behind Chris Gayle, Glenn Maxwell, Kieron Pollard, Alex Hales and Andre Russell.
This is the second edition of the tournament also comprising defending champions Rangpur Riders, Hobart Hurricanes and Guyana Amazon Warriors.
