The Bangladesh Cricket Board and Tamim Iqbal's family Monday requested the nation for continued prayers and blessings for the former national captain's early recovery after he suffered cardiac arrest this morning at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan ground in Savar.

The incident happened during Monday's Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match as Mohammedan Sporting Club, led by Tamim, was competing against Shinepukur Cricket Club.

Tamim received immediate emergency medical treatment after being transferred to the nearby KPJ Specialized Hospital, where he underwent a successful angiogram procedure to address a blockage in one of the arteries of his heart.

Dr Razeeb Hasan, medical director of the KPJ Specialized Hospital, said the stenting was done smoothly and efficiently, and the blockage has been completely cleared.

“However, he is still under observation, and his condition remains critical. It will take a little more time,” he said at a press briefing.

Dr Razeeb added, “He came to us in a critical condition. We gave all the necessary treatment. By the grace of Allah, his condition is now better. He had a heart attack. To address it, we performed an angiogram, angioplasty, and placed a stent.”

The procedure was carried out by cardiologist Dr Moniruzzaman Maruf.

Tamim is currently under close observation at the hospital's coronary care unit, the BCB said in a press release, updating his latest condition.

BCB president Faruk Ahmed expressed his gratitude to the medical teams at BKSP and KPJ Specialized Hospital for their timely and expert intervention.

In a statement, he said: "We are very thankful to all the medics and specialists for their swift actions in this critical situation. The outpouring of concern for Tamim reflects how much he is loved and appreciated by the nation.

“The Chief Advisor’s Office, Ministry of Youth & Sports, and National Sports Council have been in constant touch with us and are receiving regular updates on Tamim’s condition.

“The BCB is closely monitoring his health and continues to remain in contact with the hospital’s medical team. The board is committed to providing every support and assistance to ensure Tamim’s swift recovery.”

The BCB requests that fans and onlookers refrain from gathering at the hospital for inquiries regarding Tamim’s condition, as it may hinder the hospital's treatment and services.

Further updates will be shared with the media in due course, the release added, reports BSS and UNB.
