Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has regained consciousness after suffering a massive heart attack during a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match on Monday.
Doctors diagnosed two blockages in his heart, and an angiogram was performed, leading to the placement of a stent.
He remains under close observation in the hospital’s Coronary Care Unit.
Bangladesh Cricket Board's cricket operations committee manager Shahriar Nafees shared the update on his official Facebook account, writing: “Tamim Iqbal has regained consciousness and is under observation in the CCU. Please keep him in your prayers.”
The incident occurred during the eighth-round DPL match at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan Ground No. 3, where Tamim was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club against Shinepukur Cricket Club.
He collapsed on the field, prompting an immediate response from teammates and medical staff.
Initially, a helicopter was arranged to transport him, but due to his critical condition, he was instead rushed to KPJ Specialized Hospital and Nursing College for emergency treatment.
