Bangladesh top-order batter Soumya Sarkar faced an injury scare while training at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium Monday.

The left-hander suffered a blow on the same finger which he had injured during the tour of the West Indies in December last year, following which Soumya was out from the majority part of the recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20.

During the tour of the Windies, the southpaw was benched in the third T20 International after picking up a cut to his right index finger, and later returned to the field in the business end of the BPL 2024-25 for Rangpur Riders.

While batting in Mirpur during national team training session Monday, the 31-year old was hit by the ball while facing left-arm pacer Mrittunjoy Chowdhury.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board medical team said Soumya was sent for scans immediately and there was no fracture found in the reports.

“I am doing well. I was hit on the same finger while facing Mrittunjoy but according to doctor’s report it is nothing major,” said Soumya to Dhaka Tribune Monday.

Bangladesh team are set to travel out from Dhaka on February 14 for the upcoming eight-nation Champions Trophy, slated to be held in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

Bangladesh are in Group A of the Champions Trophy and will begin the campaign against India in Dubai on February 20.

The Tigers will then travel to Rawalpindi, Pakistan to take on New Zealand on February 24 and then the hosts on February 27 at the same venue.
