Bangladesh women’s team’s aspiration to make a direct entry to the Cricket World Cup was shattered after their eight-wicket defeat to the West Indies in the third and final One Day International at Basseterre, Saint Kitts Friday.
The defeat also ensured Bangladesh’s 2-1 loss to the hosts in the three-match series.
The Tigresses lost the first game by nine wickets before keeping their hopes of a series victory and direct qualification to World Cup alive with a 60-run triumph.
The last encounter turned out to be "do or die" in which Bangladesh miserably failed.
But despite the loss, they still have the chance to claim a place in the World Cup, to be held in India this year.
They have to play the qualifying round now with five other five teams - Pakistan, the Windies, Ireland, Scotland and Thailand.
Two teams from the qualifying round will join the top six sides in the World Cup.
In the crucial clash, Bangladesh chose to bat first but were bowled out for a meager 118 in 43.5 overs with Sharmin Akter Supta making highest 37.
Sobhana Mostary added 25 and opener Fargana Hoque Pinky scored 22 to be the other significant contributors with the rest failing to come up with the goods.
Off-spinner Karishma Ramharack wrecked havoc on Bangladesh batting line-up by bagging four wickets for just 12 runs in 6.5 overs.
Zaida James complemented her with 2/15.
The home side overhauled the target in only 27.3 overs by reaching 122/2 with opener Qiana Joseph top-scoring with 39.
Deandra Dottin was not out on 33 alongside Shemaine Campbelle on 25.
Marufa Akter and Nahida Akter took one wicket each for Bangladesh.
