Bangladesh will meet Australia Monday morning after a confidence boosting win in their opening match against Nepal at the Under-19 Women’s Twenty20 World Cup in Malaysia.
The young Tigresses beat Nepal last Saturday by five wickets to open their Group D journey in Bangi where they will also take on Scotland this Wednesday.
Nepal were no match for the young girls in red and green as they were all out for 52 in 18.2 overs with only two batters reaching double digit.
Jannatul Mawa scalped 2/11 from her four overs while Anisa Akter Soba (1/6), Fahmida Choya (1/7) and Nishita Akter Nishi (1/13) were also among the wickets.
Even though Bangladesh lost wickets at regular intervals they still reached their destination in 13.2 overs, thanks to Sadia Islam (16) and captain Sumaiya Akter (12).
In the event of qualification for the Super Six with top three Group D teams progressing, Bangladesh will come up against Group A sides India, Sri Lanka, the West Indies or hosts Malaysia.
Bangladesh had also exited in the Super Six two years ago in the tournament’s inaugural edition, missing out on the semi-finals along with hosts South Africa despite ending up with six points, same as top two teams India and Australia.
In that edition the young Tigresses had beaten the Aussies and Sri Lanka in the group stage, alongside defeating USA, but lost to the Proteas in the Super Six before rounding their campaign with victory against the UAE.
