Bangladesh speedster Nahid Rana said he is trying to hone the art of bowling according to the situation of the match as pace alone does not always work to get the desired success.
Two contrasting performances in less than 24 hours taught him how important it is to bowl as per the match scenario.
In the previous day, he leaked 45 runs in four overs and went wicket-less in Rangpur Riders' clash against Sylhet Strikers.
Rangpur still won the game despite Nahid's mediocre display.
However, he turned the table Tuesday with an impressive performance that saw him take three wickets for just 21 runs in four overs against Dhaka Capitals.
Rangpur won the game again and made it five in a row to remain unbeaten in the tournament.
The difference was that he compromised with his pace, knowing that this sort of wicket is not helpful for a bowler with raw pace.
Therefore he curbed his pace to some extent and maintained proper line and length which eventually gave him success.
"It feels very good (after such a performance). I am trying to learn how I can survive when things are not in my favor. My hard-work is paying off. I will try to carry it out as long as I can," Nahid said after Tuesday’s match against Dhaka.
"What I tried to do, is to bowl according to the wicket, batter and the match situation. That's it."
After claiming three wickets, he took his tally to nine scalps in five matches at 7.15 economy rate.
He is second among the pacers after Taskin Ahmed, and third overall in the list of wicket-takers.
"My personal target is to give my best to Rangpur," Nahid said.
"I will try to do what Rangpur want from me."
He has been playing cricket regularly over the last two months, which also raised concerns, especially as fast bowlers naturally tend to get injured.
Since Nahid is one of the fastest bowlers currently in the cricket world, the concerns are valid.
But he appeared unfazed about it, saying he is just doing what comes naturally to him and prepared for anything.
"For example, when people go to war, there is concern that they might get shot. When we come to play cricket, it is natural that there will be concern of getting injured. But I am trying to maintain all these myself. I am trying to work according to the schedule given by the Bangladesh Cricket Board," he said.
"Look, I played the last One Day International in the West Indies. So, I got a break after that, I didn't play then. The BCB had given me a fitness plan, which I am maintaining with the help of Rangpur officials. So far, the BCB is saying my bowling is fine and I feel that my body is fine also."
