All-round Mosaddek lifts Bangladesh U-19

Update : 08 Aug 2013, 09:30 AM

Bangladesh Under-19's Mosaddek Hossain produced a superb all-round display with an unbeaten century followed by three valuable wickets to help propel his team to a 38-run win against England Under-19 at the London Road, Sleaford yesterday.

The visitors amassed 286 for 4, propped up by Mosaddek's unbeaten 110 off 113 balls as he struck nine fours and a couple of sixes. He also added 156 for the third wicket with opener Sadman Islam, who made 86 off 126 balls. Tom Barber was England's most successful bowler on the day, picking up two wickets.

Batting first, The junior Tigers received huge dividend after skipper Mehedy Hasan winning the toss opted to bat. The openers added 57 runs before Shahriar Sumon (37) was the first wicket to fall and one-down Mehedy also followed him next over.

However, a magnificent 162-run third-wicket stand between Sadman Islam and Mosaddek took the visitors to a strong position in the match. Sadman lost a glorious opportunity of registering his maiden ton as he was bowled on 86 by fast bowler Tom Barber.

Mosaddek made no mistake to make his mark as remained unbeaten on 110 from 113 balls to harbour Bangladesh's innings. He smashed nine fours and two sixes.

The home side's reply was going smoothly until Mosaddek's offspin caught them napping. He collected three wickets, including that of captain Ben Duckett who made 56. Haseeb Hameed top scored with 67 off 96 balls while Will Rhodes smashed three sixes in his 32, but it was not enough. Seamer Rifat Pradhan also took three wickets, though he was slightly expensive.

The home side suffered their second successive defeat after their 46-run loss to Pakistan on Tuesday. Bangladesh take on Pakistan in the next match of the tri-series on Friday, at Market Harborough.
