Four Bangladesh batsmen chipped in with vital contributions as the Tigers registered 294 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets in 50 overs after batting first against the West Indies in Sunday’s three-match One Day International series opener at Warner Park in Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Captain Mehedi Hasan Miraz (74), opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim (60) and the veteran Mahmudullah (50*) all struck fifties while Jaker Ali Anik (48) hit a quickfire knock to guide the Tigers to a competitive total.
Tanzid hammered half a dozen fours and three sixes in his run-a-ball innings while skipper Miraz blasted the same number of boundaries and a solitary maximum in his 101-ball knock.
The duo put on 79 for the third wicket after the departures of opener Soumya Sarkar (19) and wicketkeeper-batter Liton Das (two).
This was Tanzid’s third ODI fifty and Miraz’s fifth.
And following the dismissals of the half centurion pair, the highest partnership of the innings was stitched together by Mahmudullah and Jaker who added 96 for the sixth wicket.
En route to his 30th ODI half-century, laced with three fours and as many sixes – same as Jaker, Mahmudullah negotiated 44 deliveries.
Jaker, who faced 40 balls, fell two short of a maiden ODI fifty.
For the Windies, Romario Shepherd bagged three wickets while Alzarri Joseph picked up two.
