Bangladesh 106 all out within 41 overs on day one against South Africa

Wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali Anik made his Test debut as Bangladesh went for an extra batter in their line-up in the absence of all-rounder Shakib al Hasan

Bangladesh were bundled out for just 106 runs in 40.1 overs on day one of the first Test against South Africa in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Monday.

Shadman Islam (nought), Mominul Haque (four), captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto (seven), Mushfiqur Rahim (11), Liton Das (one) and Mehedi Hasan Miraz (13) all went back to the pavilion in the first session as the Tigers suffered batting collapse, limping to the lunch break on 60/6.

Eventually, they were bowled out for a low total.

Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy was the top-scorer with 30 off 97 balls, while Taijul Islam made 16.

Kagiso Rabada, Wiaan Mulder and Keshav Maharaj bagged three wickets each, while Dane Piedt took the remaining one.

Earlier, Bangladesh captain Shanto won the toss and elected to bat.

The series carries points towards the World Test Championship, with the final in England next year.

South Africa currently are sixth in the standings with Bangladesh seventh.

The Proteas are captained by Aiden Markram in the absence of Temba Bavuma, who is injured.
