The Hindu Mahasabha has threatened to protest against the visiting Bangladesh team in Kanpur over the allegation of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, reports Indian media ABP Live.
India and Bangladesh are scheduled to play a two-match Test series and a three-game Twenty20 International series starting from September 19.
The first match of the two-Test series will get underway on September 19 in Chennai, while the second Test is set to begin from September 27 in Kanpur.
But even before the start of the series security has become a concern for the Bangladesh team ahead of their much-anticipated tour of India.
“We have also noticed the news. We will communicate with the Board of Control for Cricket in India tomorrow (Saturday),” said Bangladesh Cricket Board CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury to Dhaka Tribune Friday.
The ABP Live report also says the BCCI is even mulling to change the venue of the match from Kanpur to Indore due to the threat of protest.
Meanwhile, another Indian news outlet Mykhel also reported last Tuesday that the Kanpur Test between hosts India and Bangladesh is under security threat.
The Mykhel report stated: “The local intelligence has notified the BCCI officials about the impending situation, which can turn volatile. Sources told MyKhel that the BCCI is in the process of holding talks with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on the issue.”
Earlier Hindu Mahasabha had opposed the India-Bangladesh first T20I in Gwalior as well.
"Hindus are being massacred in Bangladesh…temples are being destroyed. Therefore, the Hindu Mahasabha has decided that the India-Bangladesh cricket match in Gwalior will be opposed," Mahasabha vice president Jaiveer Bharadwaj was quoted as saying by Press Trust of India in an August 14 report.
Bangladesh will head to India on the back of a historic 2-0 Test series win over Pakistan, their first series win over the Asian rivals in the longest format.
