National opener Tamim Iqbal has denied allegations made by his Bangladesh Premier League franchise Duronto Rajshahi chairman Mushfiqur Rahman Mohon’s statement.
It was recently published in the media that Mohon is having a bitter time with Tamim on payment for his service in the second edition of BPL. Mohan, who is also the chairman of the cricket committee of Dhaka Premier League club Sheikh Jamal, while facing the media during a club program yesterday alleged Tamim of leaving the Duronto Rajshahi camp in between the tournament.
“Tamim did not play some matches for Rajshahi in the second edition of BPL after our mutual understanding with the BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board). But there is also another thing which I think all should be informed of. Tamim went abroad without informing us (the team management) during the tournament. Now you decide whether I should pay him his full remuneration,” said Mohon to the media.
However, Tamim denied of any such occurrence and told Dhaka Tribune that he was injured. The left- handed opening batsman after playing 10 off the 12 group matches for Rajshahi sustained injury on the wrist and thus was ruled out from the rest of the tournament.
“I was injured and as it happened that time, the Board physiotherapist told me to take rest and not play any more cricket for the moment. I remember clearly of informing both Mohon bhai and our coach (Khaled Mashud Pilot) before leaving the team hotel,” told Tamim to the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.
“I was injured and couldn’t play any game, so I thought better take permission and leave. I have no issue if I am not paid for the matches that I was not available for and to be honest I don’t see what the issue here is,” Tamim added.
Meanwhile, Duronto Rajshahi coach Khaled Mashud Pilot also echoed the same sentiment as Tamim.
“I remember of him informing us. He was injured and thus left the camp. Tamim was my helping hand during the tournament. He did anything and everything to help perform in the tournament, so to be honest I don’t remember of any issue taking place between him and the management,” said Pilot.
