The chairman of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) Jalal Younus dismissed the possibility that the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) - which is scheduled to start on September 10 - players would not be paid in full at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium (SBNS) yesterday.
“The DPL tournament has been going on for a long time in Bangladesh and there is no history of payment problems so far and I am confident that there will be no such issues this time as well,” said Jalal.
The CCDM chairman explained how the players would be paid.“The players will receive 40% of their payment when they sign the contract and 30% will be given after the first round ends. The remaining 30% will be cleared within a month of the league ending.”
In light of a new system for player recruitment being used for this year’s DPL, many cricketers expressed fears about possible payment problems. The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has been plagued in recent times with such issues, thus increasing the cricketers’ concerns. Whereas the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are responsible for making payments for the BPL, DPL payments have typically been made by the clubs.
The BCB is planning to use five venues at the start of the league, with SBNS also becoming available after September 18. “The two grounds of Fatullah, the number two ground of BKSP, ShahidChandu Stadium in Bogra and the ShahidKamruzzaman Stadium of Rajshahi will be the probable venues, but so far the schedule is not ready,” informed Jalal.
After several postponements, the BCB finally held the players’ transfer on August 25. The start date for the league has also been pushed back multiple times. Jalal hoped that the league would begin on September 10, after the clubs objected to the earlier announced September 3 start date.
Jalal added that there would be a reserve day for all matches, keeping the rainy season in mind.
