Former cricketer turned umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid Saikat has been made part of the umpiring panel for three Super 8 matches in the ongoing Twenty20 World Cup.
Saikat will be one of the on-field umpires in the highly anticipated encounter between South Africa and England Friday (BST).
He will also officiate the England-West Indies game Thursday as the third umpire.
A former left-arm spinner, Saikat will also be on duty as the fourth umpire in the clash between South Africa and co-hosts West Indies in Antigua Monday.
Saikat earlier made history for Bangladesh after he officiated the T20 World Cup 2024 opener between Canada and co-hosts USA.
The 47-year old emerged as the first Bangladeshi umpire to officiate at the prestigious world T20 men’s event.
His experience includes officiating five matches at the Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, as well as serving on the panel for two Women’s Cricket World Cups and the Women’s T20 World Cup 2018.
