Tanzim Hasan Sakib has been fined 15% of his match fee by the International Cricket Council.
World cricket’s governing body found the right-arm pacer guilty of breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct when Bangladesh faced Nepal at the Arnos Vale, Kingstown in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Monday.
Tanzim was key in Bangladesh’s 21-run win with his record spell of four wickets for seven runs that derailed Nepal in their pursuit of 106.
The 21-year old is currently the joint second-highest wicket-taker in this Twenty20 World Cup, with nine wickets in four games, at an economy of only 4.8.
Tanzim was found to have breached Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
The code relates to “inappropriate physical contact with a player, player support personnel, umpire, match referee or any other person (including a spectator during an international match.”
The incident occurred at the end of the third over of Nepal’s innings, when Tanzim, after bowling a delivery, walked towards Nepal captain and middle-order batter Rohit Paudel in an aggressive manner and made inappropriate physical contact.
Tanzim admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.
On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sam Nogajski, third umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena had levelled the charge against the Bangladesh fast bowler.
In addition to the fine, one demerit point has been added to Tanzim’s disciplinary record.
This is his first offence in a 24-month period.
Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50% of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
Having defeated Nepal, Bangladesh qualified for the Super 8 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup and are set to meet Australia Friday [BST] at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
