That you can hit the ball all around the park is probably the most interesting thing the Americans have learnt about cricket.
They also know that the diamond is missing, the ground is oval and that sometimes a game can last for five days.
International Cricket Council brought the game to the United States of America with the ambition to win hearts, and grow the sport in America.
Despite being an unfamiliar territory for cricket, co-hosts USA is scheduled to hold 18 off the 55 matches of the 20-nation tournament.
In terms of creating a buzz, it was limited to the two host cities in Dallas and New York and only in areas where it mattered.
Apart from the two venues, Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas and Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, the most hyped area has been the Fan Zone at the World Trade Center in the Big Apple.
Besides the carnival set-up, the Fan Zone extensively highlights education on the game and presentation of its rich history.
While moving in and around New York, this reporter asked a few residents if they are aware of the Twenty20 World Cup happening.
Majority were amazed to learn about it while the few that knows about cricket indulged in interesting conversation.
“Yes, yes, I have heard of cricket from an Indian friend. He is actually a neighbor. He [friend] is very excited that India is playing in New York,” said a cab driver in New York.
“This game is played with a paddle shaped bat, right? The bat is flat on one side,” he added.
The journey of cricket in the US had a major boost very recently with the introduction of Major League Cricket.
The T20 league, involving mostly the Indian Premier League franchises, started last year with the ambition to culminate in the 2028 Los Angeles Games where cricket will be reintroduced to the Olympic program for the first time since 1900.
When ICC decided the hosts for the 2024 event, a developing appetite for the sport in the US was in consideration, alongside the fact that the country offered a discipline-loving party atmosphere.
However, as it has been revealed now, USA needs to come a long way in terms of building the infrastructure, and the right ones at that.
Off the two venues, Nassau County has been the most talked about and controversial one for how it made the teams struggle with the bat.
The idea to have drop-in pitches, as there was not enough time to develop the traditional ones, has backfired massively.
The teams who played here have been very upset of the pitches and the outfield, and the struggle is visible when one looks at the scorecards.
There have been occasions when the teams officially complained of the Nassau County pitches and ICC admitting to it addressed the matter with a statement in media.
“T20 Inc and the ICC recognize that the pitches used so far at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have not played as consistently as we would have all wanted. The world-class grounds team have been working hard since the conclusion of the latest game to remedy the situation and deliver the best possible surfaces for the remaining matches,” ICC said in a statement within a week after the curtain was raised.
It started with Sri Lanka getting all-out for 77 against South Africa.
Off the seven games played, the highest total in an innings has been 137 by Canada against Ireland.
Nassau County will host its last game, between USA and India, Wednesday [BST].
