Soumya dreams big despite poor form

Soumya is dreaming big for himself and the side and reckons if they play as a unit then they can produce good results

Opening batter Soumya Sarkar wants to make this Twenty20 World Cup memorable for himself and the team and believes the Tigers have the strength to bounce back despite being in a poor run of form in the T20 format in recent past.

Bangladesh camp is preparing in Dallas ahead of their first match of the T20 World Cup against Sri Lanka this Saturday.

The men in red and green are pitted in a tough group with Pool D comprising former champions Sri Lanka, mighty South Africa and the promising duo Netherlands and Nepal.

Both the Netherlands and Nepal produced strong results in the qualifying round and the Dutch even defeated the Lankans in the warm-up game so these ties would not be a walk in the park for the Tigers.

Bangladesh’s preparation for the world event was not upto the mark as they suffered a shocking 1-2 series loss against USA.

Tigers batters, particularly the top-order containing Liton Das, Soumya and skipper Nazmul Hossain Shanto are horribly out of form and struggled to produce good starts in the last few games.

But Soumya nevertheless is dreaming big for himself and the side and reckons if they play as a unit then they can produce good results.

"I always dream big. I dream of becoming champion. It's my personal thinking, I like to dream big. If others say they want to make it to the semi-final, I would say I want to play the final," Soumya said in a video posted on social media by the Bangladesh Cricket Board Monday.

"The results will come later, it would depend on whether we play well or poorly on the field. But having a big dream is the most important thing.

“I have not done well in the past two World Cups that I played. This time I am aiming to turn things around and make it a memorable tournament for us.

"We have some experienced players like Shakib (al Hasan) bhai and Mahmudullah bhai so it's a good mix. Shanto is doing everything to keep the team together and motivated. I wish Shanto good luck for the future as captain. If we can all play as a unit and rally together behind the skipper as a team, we can do something good.”
