Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team began their ACC U-19 Asia Cup campaign with a 61-run victory over hosts United Arab Emirates in Saturday’s Group B clash in Dubai.
Asked to bat first, the young Tigers posted 228 losing all of their wickets in 49.3 overs with opener Ashiqur Rahman Shibli top-scoring with a 102-ball 71.
The wicketkeeper-batter struck three fours and a six and put on 74 for the opening wicket with Jishan Alam (42).
Jishan clubbed five boundaries in his 56-ball knock but after the departure of the openers, the tourists lost wickets at regular intervals.
Dhruv Parashar led the way for the home side with 6/44 while Aayan Afzal Khan finished with 2/29 from his quota of 10 overs.
In reply, the Emiratis kept getting off to good starts before losing their wickets with lower-order batter Hardik Pai scoring the highest, an unbeaten 30.
UAE were eventually all out for 167 in 47.4 overs with spinners Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby and Parvez Rahman Jibon sharing eight wickets between them.
Off-spinner Jibon ended with 4/26 in his 10 overs while captain and left-arm spinner Rabby registered bowling figure of 4/32.
The other two teams of the group, Japan and Sri Lanka, faced off later Saturday with the Lankans emerging victorious by seven wickets.
The youngsters in red and green will take on Japan in their next game Monday.
In Group A, India and Pakistan started off on a winning note, beating Afghanistan and Nepal respectively Friday.
