Shakib al Hasan’s Lanka Premier League side Galle Titans have thrown their support behind the Bangladesh captain in the Angelo Mathews timed-out incident.

Sri Lanka veteran Mathews’ timed out dismissal during Monday’s ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 game against Bangladesh in New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium divided the cricket world into two parts.

Shakib gained support from most of the Bangladesh cricket fans.

The scenario however, has been different with the Lankan cricket arena as they heavily criticized the star Bangladesh cricketer.

Adding fuel to the fire was Mathews’ brother - Trevin Mathews - who threatened Shakib that he will be stoned if he comes to play in the island in future.

But Shakib’s LPL franchise Galle showed support for the ace all-rounder with a social media post Thursday.

“Please remember that a single statement of one person does not reflect the opinion of the entire country. Similarly, Sri Lankans will never behave like this. The cricket fans of our country will accept a player from any country very lovingly at any time,” the Titans said in the post.

Mathews emerged as the first player in the 146-year history of international cricket to suffer a timed out dismissal.

According to the laws of cricket, after the fall of a wicket or the retirement of a batsman, the incoming player must be ready to receive the ball within two minutes.

Mathews claimed he had reached the crease to face the first delivery within the time limit but was unable to as his helmet’s strap broke accidently.

While the Lankan all-rounder waited for the helmet replacement, Shakib appealed to the umpires for a timed out, which the umpires agreed to.

Mathews was seen going towards Shakib and asking him to reconsider his unique appeal.

But Shakib denied his request, thus creating history in world cricket.
