Top-order and wicketkeeper-batsman Anamul Haque Bijoy has replaced injured Shakib al Hasan for Bangladesh’s last game against Australia, confirmed International Cricket Council.
Shakib suffered an injury on his left index finger while batting in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup India 2023 match against Sri Lanka in New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium Monday where Bangladesh won by three wickets.
Shakib was adjudged man of the match for his all-round performance.
An X-ray conducted after the game confirmed a fracture which has ruled him out of Bangladesh’s last match of the tournament.
The event technical committee of the World Cup has approved Anamul as a replacement for Shakib in the squad.
Anamul has played 45 One Day Internationals for Bangladesh and scored 1,258 runs.
The replacement of a player requires the approval of the event technical committee before the replacement player can be officially added to the squad.
