In a surprising development, Bangladesh captain Shakib al Hasan was back in Dhaka Wednesday morning, a day after their defeat to South Africa in the Cricket World Cup in Mumbai.
While the rest of the team were set to depart Mumbai for Kolkata Wednesday afternoon ahead of the clash against the Netherlands at Eden Gardens Saturday, Shakib was back in the country for a practice session with his mentor Nazmul Abedeen Fahim at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
According to sources, the star all-rounder, having a difficult time with the bat in the mega event, will return to India Friday, a day before the Dutch tie.
Shakib made scores of 14, one, 40 and one in the four games he has played so far, only averaging 14, and took the opportunity to work on his batting during the three-day gap between the South Africa and Netherlands matches.
