Bangladesh national women's cricket team captain Nigar Sultana Joty was not the happiest person after her side leveled the three-match One Day International series against India.
She expected “better behavior” from the opponent skipper Harmanpreet Kaur as the series ended 1-1 after a dramatic tie in the third match in Mirpur Saturday.
Harmanpreet smacked the stumps with the bat to protest a decision of a Bangladeshi umpire en route to her way back to the pavilion and later lambasted the umpires in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Joty initially avoided being judgmental regarding the Indian skipper's comment on umpiring in the post-match press conference.
“I think it's good to talk about cricket because we didn't think about wicket and umpiring and only played the match. Everyone gave their best. I'm not thinking about what they said,” said Joty.
The Bangladesh skipper however, could not resist further when asked about another comment of Harmanpreet that led her side to sudden withdrawal from the photo session ceremony with the trophy.
“What she said are her words not ours. I think as a cricketer, she should have talked in a better manner. It's her matter. I should not talk about this,” said Joty.
“There were some words after hearing those I didn't think I should have stayed there with the team. Cricket is a place of respect and discipline. But this environment was not there so we left the place.”
It has been learned that Harmanpreet's comment at the photo session was regarding the umpiring but Joty did not give any hint about what she heard.
She however, backed the umpiring during the match.
“If they were not out why would the umpires give them out? One of the best umpires was there and they have experience of umpiring in men's international cricket,” said Joty.
“We respected the decisions of umpires. Why didn't we react like them after getting out? As players, we should accept their decisions, whether getting out or not.”
