Tamim’s announcement came as a mighty shock to cricket’s governing body in the country

Bangladesh Cricket Board's chairman of the cricket operations committee, Jalal Younus said they did not see it coming after Tamim Iqbal's sudden decision to retire from international cricket.

Right after the first One Day International against Afghanistan at his hometown in Chittagong Wednesday, Tamim's announcement came as a mighty shock to cricket's governing body in the country.

“It's totally unexpected that Tamim stepped away from international cricket suddenly. It's very sad. We were not prepared for this,” said Jalal to media in his immediate reaction.

“If Tamim wants he can easily play for the national team for another two years,” he added.

When asked if there would be any request from the BCB to Tamim to reverse his decision, the board director replied that they would address their official reaction later.

It was learnt that two BCB directors insisted Tamim not to take the decision but their efforts went in vain.

It is clearly evident that Tamim was not happy with the BCB president Nazmul Hasan's reaction to the media.

In the pre-match press conference, Tamim expressed hope to play the first Afghanistan ODI despite not being fully fit, which did not go down well with the BCB boss.

The veteran cricketer though did not comment on this issue.
